Discard the batteries but save everything else
To ensure the value of your Hess truck for years follow the items outlined in this article. First and foremost is remove the batteries included with your initial toy. The actual batteries that power the toy truck are included in the Hess shopping back as a separate pack of Energizer’s. But there may be small batteries that are installed at the factory usually inside a secondary toy part of the Hess Toy Truck Set.
Tip: Batteries leak over time and emit acid. Acid is harmful to your skin and will damage your toys and things it comes into contact with.

For example if you purchased the
Hess 2007 Monster truck you would know there are two small motorcycles on the back of the truck and their batteries are installed already, they are usual d types. These should be removed from the motorcycle and a small screw driver should do the trick. Carefully loosen the screw remove the battery and re-secure the screw back into place. Place the toy truck back in its original packaging.
Take time and care when opening the toy and slowly remove the paper carton containing the toy out of the box. Remember to receive top dollar should you sell, keep everything meticulous. Try not to tear, bend or crease any of the cartons, paper work or Styrofoam. Remember to save every detail like the paper inserts, battery cards and battery safety tabs as well as the original shopping bag from Hess. Collectors expect this as Brand New condition if you list it as such. Remember save everything because most people don’t. It makes such a difference between selling a toy and selling a toy in the original box with receipt.
Storage is another important factor. Try to avoid a common mistake made by many people, don’t store the toy truck in some moldy damp basement, a very hot attic which is exposed to extreme temperature swings and avoid storing boxes in direct light. Subjecting your collectable to these conditions mentions could result in damage and decrease value in the toy. A temperature controlled environment is ideal and perhaps where it’s out of reach from the little guys where it will not be disturbed or bumped.
