What makes this ship so special was the detail and attention to scale relative to the actual Hess Voyager. This toy ship originally sold for $1.89 at participating stations. There were 150,000 of these produced. This toy for set the stage for 1966 Hess truck value making it a top dollar collectible and possibly command more than the 1964 Hess toy truck.
Although this was the third toy in the Hess toy truck line it was the first ship of its kind and what is referred to as a non-land vehicle. One of the neat features about this toy is its rolling wheels. Other unique attributes are a working bow with stern lights. The red and green port and starboard running lights are controlled by a switch located on the deck of the ship.
